About Us
The Lawn (Swindon) Community Association (LCA), is a registered charity under Reg. No. 286601. It was originally constituted November 1981 and its constitution revised in 1997 and again in 2004.
The main ambition of the Association is to, "foster the spirit of the community through provision of a community facility".
That facility is the Lawn community Centre.
Information about our activities is published in our local newspaper, the 'Evening Advertiser', in the 'Handy Mag', on local radio, on this website and on the notice board at the centre.
A Newsletter is published 3 times a year and is distributed by our volunteers to about 1,500 homes in the "Lawn Area" at no charge.
All residents, aged 18 and over and living within the 'Area-of-Benefit', generally called the "Lawn Area" (as defined in the Constitution) have Ordinary Member status.
Ordinary Members of the Association, by paying a Membership fee of £1 per year, may become a Full Member with full-voting rights at the Annual General Meeting (AGM). - See 'Lawn Community Association Membership' section below -
An AGM is held in every year, unless there are extenuating circumstances, to which all residents are invited but only fully paid-up Members are elligible to vote at an AGM.
Subject to the approval of the General Committee, anyone residing outside the "Lawn Area" are offered Associate Member status and may elect up to two representatives who may vote on their behalf at an AGM.
There are "LCA-Sections", that are special interest groups formed by Members of the association.
The Association's General Committee comprises Honary Officers, up to 20 elected Members and also Associate Member's representatives. The Committee meets monthly and meeting minutes are filed at the Centre.
Other sub-committees are formed as and when appropriate.
